Future Vision for the Aurora Borealis Eyeglass Recycling Center
Recently, the Aurora Borealis Lions Foundation took steps to purchase a building in North Pole to serve as a permanent home to the Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.  They took occupancy in May 2007.  This building is scheduled to be paid of in seven years.

The primary mission of this facility will be to serve the operational needs of the Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.  Secondary to that, it will be used to foster a free eye care facility for the needy.

Should Alaska Senate Bill 149 be successful, our Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center will be postured to provide Lions Clubs in MD49 a Used Eyeglass Kit with approximately 500 eyeglasses, in varying prescriptions.  Distribution protocols and limitations are yet to be determined (per powers to be in Alaska government).

The new facility will be undergoing its initial facelift inside and out;  and funds are needed to support that effort, as well.

The monthly costs tied directly to the Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling & Vision Center is a $1700 mortgage, approximately $800 per month in operating expenses, plus approximately $8,000 in additional equipment.

In the long term, we hope to invite local optometry professionals out to support a monthly free vision clinic for the needy to replace the current eye care subsidy program...reducing costs from $170 per person helped to less than 25 cents.
